Guide Michelin – Spain 2015

Michelin has now (in late November 2014) announced its restaurants for the 2015 edition of the Michelin Guide in regards to Spain and Portugal.

There are no changes in the 3-stars segment, so the present eight restaurants (in Spain) remains the same:

  1. Quique Dacosta (in Dénia)
  2. Akelare (San Sebastian)
  3. Arzak (San Sebastian)
  4. El Celler de Can Roca (Girona)
  5. Azurmendi (outside of Bilbao)
  6. Martin Berasategui (Lasarte, close to San Sebastian)
  7. DiverXO (Madrid)
  8. Sant Pau (Sant Pol de Mar about 50km north of Barcelona)

Personally I have visited six (i.e. Akelare, Arzak, Azurmendi, El Celler de Can Roca and Martin Berasategui and Quique Dacosta) of those eight restaurants with three stars, and my personal favorite so far is Azurmendi.

The map below shows all restaurants with three stars (but I will also add all with two stars later…).

Guide Michelin stars are of course not everything to look for, but one of my favorite restaurants in Spain has now been awarded with its first star, namely the lovely fish restaurant Elkano. A couple of other really good fish- and seafood restaurants (in Spain) without any stars are Ibai and Rafa’s, both serving fish of uttermost quality.

The 2-stars restaurants in the Spain 2015 Michelin Guide are (one new entry for 2015):

  1. Aponiente (El Puerto de Santa María) – awarded its second star 2015
  2. Casa Marcial (Arriondas)
  3. ABaC (Barcelona)
  4. Enoteca (Barcelona)
  5. Lasarte (Barcelona)
  6. Moments (Barcelona)
  7. Atrio (Cáceres)
  8. Mugaritz (Errenteria)
  9. El Portal Echaurren (Ezcaray/Rioja)
  10. B (Guía de Isora/Tenerife)
  11. Miramar (Llancà)
  12. El Club Allard (Madrid)
  13. Ramón Freixa Madrid (Madrid)
  14. Santceloni (Madrid)
  15. Sergi Arola (Madrid)
  16. La Terraza del Casino (Madrid)
  17. Calima (Marbella)
  18. Les Cols (Olot)

Personally I have visited ABaC, El Portal, Lasarte, Mugaritz, El Club Allard, Ramón Freixa, Sergi Arola and La Terraza del Casino of the 2-stars restaurants in Spain and value La Terraza and Mugaritz highest of them. But I still have many more to do…

Guide Michelin for Spain and Portugal 2015 features eight restaurants with a three-star rating, 21 restaurants in the two-star category and 154 restaurants in the one-star range.
