As time of writing (end of April, 2012), ABaC is the latest and second 2-star (Guide Michelin) Restaurant in Barcelona.
The restaurant is located in a “Boutique” Hotel in the upper/west part of Barcelona (i.e. not in the central city) and is run by chef Jordi Cruz.
I went for the El Menu ABaC (tasting menu a 125€) together with an excellent Cava 1999 Torre Del Homenatge (85€ + 8% VAT, which is about double the street price. This is probably the best Cava I have ever tried). Bread not included in price (and as usually neither the water). The lunch was in total 235€ (including an espresso). From a pure price perspective you could have a dinner for about the same price in most of the 3-star Restaurants in Spain (I was for instance having a tasting menu plus wine paring on El Celler de Can Roca less then a year ago for a little bit less than this).
Verdict? “Correct”… Maybe I was a little bit spoiled or blasé after I had visiting some top notch 3-star German restaurants just prior to ABaC (so this should be taken in consideration when reading this post). That said, everything was good, stylish and creative but (for me) nothing really “blow me out”. Dishes have clear focus on textures, presentations and flavors.
