The Alpenroyal Grand Hotel is a 5-star gourmet and spa facility in Val Gardena (Italy).
Since I and some friends were staying in the neighboring municipality on our ski vacation, we decided to have dinner in the one-star (Guide Michelin) restaurant Alpenroyal Gourmet Restaurant (located in the hotel).
The chef, Mario Porcelli, does not originally come from the Dolomites, but from the Mediterranean region of Apulia in Italy. The food served is therefore a mix from all over Italy, but with a creative touch.
We opted for the 6-course menu and this is what we had:
Passion and Intuition…
“It is a journey of tastes from South to North of Italy with the products that earth and sea offer us during this period of the year”
Amuse-bouche:
Red mullet, red prawns and artichokes:
The rabbit:
My legume soup:
Even though the broth was looking good (i.e. nice and clear), it was unfortunately completely tasteless. That said, it was more less the only disappointment this dinner.
Risotto with scampi, turnip tops and baked tomato:
Venison, beetroot, lemon balm, orange and king trumpet mushrooms:
Persimmons, buffalo ricotta cheese, cocoa and cranberries:
Dessert:
Petits fours:
Very good petits fours, especially the chocolate ball in the middle.
Summary: a good restaurant well worth a visit if you are in the Val Gardena area for some skiing during the winter (or hiking in the summer).
