Almost a week after my dinner at Vendôme I was back in Cologne (Köln) and decided to visit a Bib Gourmand restaurant. Monday is not the perfect day for “good” restaurants though most of them are closed (also: the fish markets are usually closed on Mondays as well) but I found a street corner brasserie named Capricorn [i] Aries Brasserie that was in operation.
The restaurant is located in the southern part of Altstadt-Süd.
Bib Gourmand is what Guide Michelin considers a “Best value restaurant”. In comparison to the Michelin-starred restaurants, were no cost for the meal should be considered, a Bib Gourmand restaurant has the price as an important factor, so even if the restaurant is extremely good but at the same time expensive, the restaurant can not get the Bib Gourmand “attribute”.
This corner brasserie, part a neighborhood bistro, part a “fine dining” restaurant, serves French rural classical cuisine with Rheinland influences.
We opted for a 4-course menu with matching wines and this is what we had:
In summary: Bib Gourmand restaurants are almost always a good choice and that was definitely the case even this evening at Capricorn [i] Aries Brasserie. Good quality food, reasonable prices, a cozy and relaxed environment together with a friendly staff gave my friends and me a very good evening!
